Inter Club Championships 2013
The Club hosted it’s Inter Club invitational competition on Sunday 5th May at the gym. Joing the Swallows gymnasts were members of Callywith Gymnastics Centre, based at Bodmin.
In the 7 years age group the competition was very closely fought with Jasmine Forwood taking the overall championship title, Scarlett Thompson in Silver medal place and Olivia Morris taking the Bronze medal.
Morwenna Holbrook (7) also took apparatus medals within this age group with a great Bars and Beam performance.
Zoe Hopkins added to her medal collection winning the 8 years age group with Holly Kemp in Silver medal position and Jessica Caves taking the Bronze. These gymnasts also took a number of apparatus medals during the day.
Josie Martin took a Floor medal in the 9 year age group for her Floor performance with Nancy Read taking medals on both Vault and Bars. Kaitlyn Standing also took two medals during her competition on Bars and Vault.
In the boys Under 9 competition the Gold medal overall was won by Cameron Jenkin, Aidan Hunkin in silver medal position and Joe Mitchell in Bronze medal place.
Leandros Papastavros (8) secured himself some individual apparatus medals within this age group. Young gymnast Ashton Watson (6) participated in his first competition for the experience of competitive gymnastics. Ashton was awarded with a certificate of participation for his efforts.
Katie McCatrney led the way in the 10/11 yrs Novice apparatus event taking the overall gold medal. Team mate Claudia Kitchen took the overall bronze medal for some consistent performances.
Shannon Standing added to her medal tally for the year winning a bronze for her Beam and Bar routines. Kerris Richards also took two medals on the apparatus for a great all around effort.
Tiegan Wheat was the Club’s only competitor in the 13+ age group and was up against a very talented bunch of gymnasts from Callywith. Tiegan took the bronze medal on Vault and beam and also ranked in overall 3rd place after a good competition.
A great mornings competition for all those involved. A special well done to Sophie McCartney and Alaia Wilson who unfortunately just missed out on the medals this time. Keep up the good work girls, your hard work will be rewarded soon.
