Swallows of Helston is a gymnastic club in Cornwall with approximately 350 members, ranging from around 3 years old to adults. A broad range of classes are run weekly, incorporating all ages, at recreational, display and competitive levels.

County Apparatus Championships 2013

5 gymnasts from the Swallows of Helston took part in the County Apparatus in Helston today and took a number of champion titles and a host of medals for all their hard work.  The medalists were as follows:

9 years – Zara Mitchell – Overall Champion and gold medalist on all 4 pieces of apparatus

11 years – Megan Morris – Overall Champion with silver medal on vault, bars and floor.  Gold on beam. Team mate Phoebe Jenkin took the overall silver medal with gold on vault, bars and floor and a silver on beam.

12 years – Maea Morgan made a clean sweep of 5 gold medals as did Ainsti Hickman-Jones in the Open age group.

Well done to all our girls and good luck in the forthcoming County selections for the Sapphire Invitational.  Let’s hope our girls are chosen to represent Cornwall in September.

Girl’s Intermediate Apparatus 2013

Gymnasts from the Swallows of  Helston took part in the Intermediate Apparatus competition today (30 June) and came away with a number of medals for all their hard work.

8 years – Ashleigh Shovel – 3 gold medals and 2 silver medals (overall Champion), Zoe Hopkins – 5 bronze medals (overall 3rd)

9 years – Madison Stanfield – 3 bronze medals, Charlotte Fidler – 1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze (overall bronze), Yuki Cornish – 2 gold and 3 silver (overall Champion)

10 years – Cara Jackson performed very well in her first competition at Intermediate level.  On this occasion was ranked 6th overall.  Autumn-Star Mills took 3 golds and 1 silver (overall Champion)

14 years – Jessica Woods – 3 golds on vault, bars and floor.  Dana Wheat – 3 bronzes

Selection for the Sapphire Invitational will be taken from these performances, so good luck to everyone.  Teams will be announced at the end of next week to represent Cornwall.

Helston School take the Team Silver

Gymnasts from the Swallows of Helston have taken the overall Team Silver medal against a field of ten other teams from all over Britain.  The team comprising of Jaron Morgan, Libby Rescorla, Conor Trevena, Maea Morgan, Cameron Wheat and Jessica Woods all performed amazingly to finish in second position.  Reserve for the day was Kea Wheat.

Well done to everyone involved, in particular, Pat Hickman, Ainsti Hickman-Jones and Clive Thomas for all their hard work.

Inter Club competition 2013

During the afternoon’s competition a number of Novice, Intermediate and County gymnasts were on show.  In the Intermediate 8/9 years the competition was won by Ashleigh Shovel.  Ashleigh’s steady performances on all four pieces of apparatus made her the clear winner, ahead of the silver medallist from Callywith and Yuki Cornish taking the overall Bronze medal.

Charlotte Fidler and Madison Stanfield took some individual apparatus medals for their steady performances and were ranked in overall 5th and 6th places consecutively.

9 year old Zara Mitchell dominated the Intermdiate 9/10 years taking all 5 gold medals, team mate Autumn-Star Mills was close behind sharing the Vault title with Zara and the overall silver medal.  Emerald Smith (9) took the overall bronze medal with consistent routines.

In the County Level 3 event the competition was extremely closely contested.  Phoebe Jenkin took the overall Gold medal withe Harly Beale just behind in silver medal place.

Libby Rescorla made changes to her routines on the day of the competition due a  back injury.  Libby’s consistency topped the rankings in overall Gold medal place with Heather Bolton in silver and Megan Morris just behin with the bronze medal.

The boys were also in action with Calum Walklett leading the way with a number of apparatus medals including the all around title.  Elliot Bullen (10) was ranked in silver medal position and Matt Heaney taking the bronze.

Kai Cornish also took the Gold medal on Floor within this age group and a number of other apparatus medals.

Jonny Murray headed the way in the Under 14 event taking the overall title with team mate Jake Hubbard in silver position.

A full day’s competition supported by all our wonderful gymnasts’s parents and families.  Many thanks to everyone who helped make the day a success.  To all the coaches for their hard work, the judges for working coninuously throughout the day, to the announcer, Kathy, and to our wonderful parents in the refreshment corner.
