Swallows of Helston is a gymnastic club in Cornwall with approximately 350 members, ranging from around 3 years old to adults. A broad range of classes are run weekly, incorporating all ages, at recreational, display and competitive levels.

Helston School’s Gymnastics Success

Gymnasts from Swallows of Helston represented their School at the South West Floor and Vault Championships in Taunton today (17 March 2013).

The team comprising of Jaron Morgan, Libby Rescorla, Conor Trevena, Maea Morgan and Cameron Wheat took the overall Gold medal beating their rivals form Ivybridge by a clear 0.70.  The team will now take to competing on the National Final stage in early May where they will represent the South West.

Congratulations to everyone and the girls that took part also.

Novice Development Champions 2013

Congratulations to our amazing girls who returned from the Novice Development Apparatus Championships today with 30 medals between them.

In the 8 year age group the trio performed amazingly well, making a clean sweep of overall medals.  Jessica Caves gained bronze medals for her Vault and Beam, and a gold for her Floor exercise.  Stella Laws gained a bronze medal on Bars and  a silver medal for her Beam routine with Zoe Hopkins taking gold medals on both Bars and Beam and bronze medals on both Vault and Floor.

In the overall standings Jessica was ranked in 3rd, Stella in 2nd and Zoe took the overall gold medal and Championship cup.

In the 10 year age group the Club had two gymnasts taking part.  Katie McCartney took silver medals on both Beam and Floor with tem mate Claudia Kitchen taking a silver on Bars and bronze medals on Vault, Floor and Beam.  In the final medal placings Claudia took the overall Champions title with Katie in 3rd position.

Shannon Standing was the Club’s only competitor in the 11 year age group.  Shannon had a great competition with gold medals on both Beam and Vault, silver for her Floor routine and a bronze on Bars.  Shannon took the overall gold medal and championship cup in this age group.

And finally to the 14 year age group, with Dana Wheat competing.  Dana had a great day with gold medals on Bars, Beam and Floor and a bronze medal for her Vault.  Dana won the everall Champion’s cup by a massive 3 whole marks.

Well done to all the gymnasts and their coaches for a fantastic set of results.

National Grades – South West Qualifiers for Girls 2013

Congratulations to Megan Morris and Phoebe Jenkin who both passed their Grade 8 in Melksham yesterday.  Against  a field of 40 gymnasts both girls put in clean performances on  all 5 pieces of apparatus.  Megan came overall 7th  and Phoebe 10th.  Megan was also ranked 2nd on Range & Conditioning with a score of 11.95 and Phoebe just behind taking 3rd place with 11.90.

In the Grade 6 competition, Maea Morgan came overall 7th place with 2nd for her near perfect Range & Conditioning. Heather Bolton took overall 4th place gaining her place to represent the South West at the National Finals in Birmingham in April.  Congratulations to Heather and good luck for the 20th April.

Well done to all four girls for their hard work.
