Swallows of Helston is a gymnastic club in Cornwall with approximately 350 members, ranging from around 3 years old to adults. A broad range of classes are run weekly, incorporating all ages, at recreational, display and competitive levels.

Stars of the Week

Congratulations to our STAR gymnasts this week for performing some new skills for the first time

Yuki Cornish, Autumn-Star Mills and Emerald Smith – Round off, flic, tuck back somersault on Floor

Alaia Wilson, Sophie McCartney, Holly Kemp and Scarlett Thompson for achieving both a Backward Circle and Squat on Jump off on the A Bars

Jessica Caves – Squat on jump off the A Bars

well done to Jaron Morgan for performing his new release and catch on High Bar totally unassisted, lets hope that he is catching in the next few days, watch this space!!

Swallows boys bring home a haul of medals

Well done to all our boys representing Cornwall today at the South West Inter Counties competition.  The team comprising of all Swallows gymnasts did extremely well at their first competition of the season against some fantastic gymnasts from all over the region.  Team: Jake Hubbard, Cameron Wheat, Calum Walklett, Matthew Heaney and Elliot Bullen.

 

In the south West Apparatus 9 yr old Elliot Bullen took the bronze medal on Floor, Vault, Parallel Bars, Pommel, High bar and the silver medal on Rings.  Elliot was placed in 3rd position in the all around event.

11 yr old Cameron Wheat won the silver medal on vault and finished in overall 5th position.

Calum Walklett took the bronze medal on vault, silver on high bar and rings and a gold for a much improved Pomme routinel. Calum was rewarded with the silver medal in the all around event.

17 yr old Jaron Morgan twin silver medals on Rings, Vault, P Bars and High Bar with golds for his Floor and Pommel routines.  Jaron brought home the silver for the all around competition.  This result will stand him in good stead for the British Championships in 5 weeks time.

Well done also to Matt Bolton for coming 7th against 30+ gymnasts in the Under 10 compuslory event today also.  Top 8 rankings on all pieces except vault!  Keep up the good work boys.

Swallows Girls compete at their first County Novice

Young gymnasts form the Club competed on Sunday at, for many, their first County Novice Development competition.  In true style the girls all did fantastically well bringing  home a number of medals for their hard work.

7 years – Scarlett Thompson took the Silver medal overall and was placed 3rd on vault and 2nd on floor in her first competition.

8 years – Ashleigh Shovel took the Silver medal overall and was placed 2nd on vault and 3rd on floor.  Club mate Stella Laws took the 1st place on floor and overall 4th position in the event against 25 other gymnasts.

9 years – Nancy Read and Amy Manley tied for 3rd place on vault with Kaitlyn Standing in 1st place on floor, and taking the overall silver medal.  Amy finished just outside the overall rankings in 4th place overall.

In the 9 and Under team event, Swallows Team ‘C’ comprising of Amy Manley, Nancy Read, Kaitlyn Standing and Josie Martin finished in overall Silver medal position 0.399 behind the gold medallists.  Swallows Team ‘A’ finished in 6th place with Team ‘B’ in 4th.

11 years – Shannon Standing was place 3rd on vault, and narrowly missed overall bronze by 0.104.

12 years – Bethany Davies took =3rd place on vault in her first ever competition at this level.

15 years – Tiegan Wheat was placed 1st on floor and 2nd on vault taking the overall silver medal just 0.32 behind the gold medal winner.

Congratulations Gymnasts

A special well done to the following gymnasts who have made real fantastic achievments during their sessions this week and achieved some new skills –

Zara – Tuck back somersault on floor

Phoebe and Megan – Full twist on floor

Calum – Magyar travel on pommel

Jonny – Tucked Tsukahara on vault

Heather & Libby – Double twist on floor

Yuki and Autimn-Star – Aerial cartwheel off the springboard

Dana – Upstart on both low and high bars

Morwenna and Jasmine – Squat on to the low bar and jump off
