GYMNASTS from the Swallows of Helston Gymnastics Club got together last week to prepare for a very special visitor.

This Easter Sunday the club will see a visit from former world champion, seven times British Champion and Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle.

The event is to be organised by some of the gymnasts who have formed a youth committee – The Flickers.

The group, which consists of 17 of the club's gymnasts ranging in age from eight to 16, have taken on the responsibilities of organising the day.

During their meeting on Saturday they discussed the running order along with the promotion and publicity of the event.

Beth will be taking time out from her busy training schedule in preparation for the World Championships to be held in London this October, to spend the day talking to and coaching a number of the club's gymnasts. Miranda Tricker, trustee and club welfare officer, explained: "This event was conceived as a way of recognising the huge commitment and achievements of all of our gymnasts, volunteer coaches and paid staff.

"It was decided by the board of trustees, that the gymnasts themselves should take overall control of the day allowing them to decide how their time with Beth will be used. We hope the day will be motivating and inspirational for all concerned."

Chair of the Flickers, Ashleigh Mitchell said: "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for all of us. Beth is an amazing role model and we are all really excited about meeting her."
